Museo Zuloaga

The Basque artist, Ignacio Zuloaga, chose a former pilgrims' hospital overlooking the sea in Zumaia, Guipuzcoa, as his studio and private museum. The museum was inaugurated in 1921 and is installed in a nave with high lighting where the family's collection is displayed. The collection was started by Plácido Zuloaga, who accumulated some impressive works at the end of the 19th century. Zurbarán, Vicente López and Luis de Morales are represented in the museum where the visitor can also admire sculptures, arms and decorative objects along with works by Zuloaga himself in his adjacent studio. In the chapel there is a magnificent Gothic altarpiece.
